Merit Scholarship Terms and Conditions
- GPA Calculation
GPAs are calculated on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0) and are not rounded. High school GPAs are based on weighted averages. - Freshman Merit Awards
Awarded contingent upon confirmation of high school graduation and receipt of final official transcripts. - Transfer Merit Awards
Contingent on receipt of all final official transcripts from high school (or GED) and all colleges/universities previously attended, regardless of grades or credits earned. - Award Variability & Eligibility
Merit award amounts may change yearly at Pitt-Bradford’s discretion. Awards are based on residency (in-state/out-of-state) and housing status (on-campus/commuter) prior to the first day of classes. Changes in status must be reported to Admissions before the first day of the term. No adjustments will be made after the term begins. - Duration & Usage
At-entry merit scholarships are valid for up to 4 years of full-time enrollment during fall and spring terms only. They do not apply to summer terms, extended fifth-year studies, or other campuses of the University of Pittsburgh. Awards are split evenly between fall and spring semesters. (Excludes CHS/Bridges and Admitted Student Day Scholarships.) - Stackability
The Panther, Go Beyond, Canadian Maple Leaf, and International Room & Board awards cannot be combined. However, the MET/EET, Sibling Room Grant, Phi Theta Kappa, UPB Admitted Student Day, and Pitt-Bradford CHS/Bridges Awards are stackable. - Go Beyond NY State Award
Covers the difference between standard (non-nursing) in-state PA tuition and standard (non-nursing) out-of-state tuition. - Renewal Requirements
A 2.25 cumulative GPA (evaluated after the spring term) is required to retain scholarships. If the Panther Scholarship requires on-campus housing, that status must be maintained. There is no appeal process, but GPA requirements may be met through summer courses at a Pitt campus, with responsibility placed on the student to let Financial Aid know after the summer term is complete if they now meet renewal criteria. - Full Tuition Scholarship Adjustment
Students receiving full tuition from any source (e.g., faculty/staff benefit, UPMC, ROTC, Tuition Exchange) will have their at entry merit award adjusted to the in-state equivalent award. - Room Grants
Sibling, Maple Leaf, and International Room & Board grants are limited to 4 years. The Sibling Grant requires the older sibling to reside on campus. - MET/EET Awards
Only available to students in eligible majors during their first term. If the major is changed after the first term, the award is forfeited. - Dual Citizenship
Students with dual U.S./Canadian citizenship are treated as U.S. citizens and are eligible for the Panther Scholarship only. They are not eligible for the Maple Leaf Scholarship or Room Grant. - Residency Reclassification
If residency changes from out-of-state to in-state, scholarships and aid will be updated to reflect the new status. - Study Abroad / Internship Use
Up to $2,000 from the Panther Scholarship or Go Beyond NY Award can be applied to one fall or spring full-time study abroad, internship, co-op, or fieldwork experience. No other at-entry scholarships apply. - Radiological Science Program
Scholarships are valid only during semesters when full-time Pitt tuition is paid. They do not apply during semesters billed by BRMC or other non-Pitt entities. - Refund Policy
University funds will not be refunded if total aid exceeds charges for tuition, fees, room, and board. - Reinstatement (No College Attendance)
Students in good academic standing who leave Pitt-Bradford for less than 3 years and do not attend another institution may reinstate their original merit scholarship if their cumulative Pitt GPA is ≥ 2.25. If below, they may regain the award the following year by reaching a 2.25 GPA by the end of the spring term. Original eligibility period (4 years) still applies. - Reinstatement (With College Attendance)
Students who leave and attend another institution may qualify for a Transfer Merit Award upon readmission, provided their cumulative Pitt GPA is ≥ 2.25. If below, they may regain eligibility the next academic year by reaching a 2.25 GPA by the spring term.
