Asynchronous program for working RNs begins in January

Working Registered Nurses (RNs) can now earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford online, on a schedule built around their careers, while receiving a respected Pitt degree.

Through Pitt Online, the Pitt-Bradford RN-BSN degree completion program is now offered remotely and asynchronously, allowing RNs to earn their BSN without leaving their current job or adhering to set class times. Registered nurses who meet prerequisite and admissions criteria can finish the program in as few as two semesters, with possible part-time course loads available for those who need greater flexibility.

Students who need additional credits to meet admissions criteria may also choose from multiple online prerequisite courses. These additional and convenient pathways allow more RNs from various academic backgrounds to enter the program. Practicums can also be conducted within a nurse’s current health care facility or in area clinics.

To deliver the program, Pitt-Bradford has partnered with the University’s Center for Excellence in Digital Education (Pitt EDGE) which manages Pitt’s online educational offerings. The collaboration ensures the delivery of high-quality, accessible coursework, taught by practicing nursing faculty, for working RNs. Applications are currently being accepted for a January start date.

“The United States continues to be hit by an overall nursing shortage which is exacerbated by the ongoing retirements of many senior nurses and nurse managers,” notes Richard Esch, the president of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. “This program provides a convenient and more affordable path for working nurses to advance their careers while expanding the overall workforce pipeline at a time when healthcare desperately needs it.”

“Our students are balancing careers, families, and communities, and they deserve a Pitt education that works for their lives,” said Anthony Delitto, associate provost for Digital Education at Pitt. “Pitt EDGE was created to expand access and to address the workforce challenges facing the communities we serve. Pitt-Bradford's online RN-BSN program brings both missions together.”
