Enrollment up in radiological science
Graduates have 100% placement rates for last five years
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has seen a significant increase in student enrollment this fall in its radiological science program Bradford Regional Medical Center.
This fall, the program welcomed 28 first year pre-radiologic science students at Pitt-Bradford. The program, which has a 100% student completion rate, now has a total of 54 students, with 14 currently in the last two years of the program completing their clinical hours, educational instruction and professional development.
The surge in interest reflects the rising need for skilled imaging professionals, as well as the school’s strong reputation for academic excellence, clinical partnerships and graduate success.
“We’re thrilled to see more students choosing radiography as their career path,” said Jeanne Capra, director of BRMC’s School of Radiography. “Radiologic technologists play a vital role in modern medicine, and this increased enrollment ensures we are preparing more professionals to meet the critical healthcare needs of our communities. Our students have had a 100% job placement rate over the last five years.”
The four-year program combines rigorous classroom instruction with hands-on clinical training, equipping graduates with the skills needed to succeed in hospitals, outpatient clinics and diagnostic imaging centers. It is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, and graduates are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exam.
Students graduating from the program earn their bachelor’s degree in radiologic science.
For many students, the program is more than just an education, it's a career launchpad. Laura Wertz, a 2007 graduate of the School of Radiography, now works as the imaging services director at BRMC and Olean General Hospital.
“The program gave me everything I needed to succeed, from clinical experience to mentorship,” she said. “By the time I graduated, I felt confident walking into my first job. I’ve since advanced to a leadership role, and I credit this program for helping me build the foundation I needed to grow in this field.”
Wertz’s story is just one of many that showcase how graduates of the program are making meaningful contributions to healthcare systems across the region and beyond. The program attracts both local and out-of-state students with this year’s class including individuals from as far as Virginia.
As healthcare systems nationwide face ongoing staffing shortages, Pitt-Bradford and BRMC remain committed to expanding access, supporting student success and maintaining high standards of training and professionalism.
The School of Radiography has more than a 30-year history of providing students with more than 2,500 hours of clinical education at BRMC and Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital to prepare students for skillset for the field.
