Pennsylvania-licensed nurses now have more choices
Nursing students at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, especially those in its new online RN-to-BSN program, now have more career options, thanks to Pennsylvania joining Nurse Licensure Compact.
The compact allows Pennsylvania-licensed nurses with a multistate license to work in other participating states. This opens the door to more jobs and helps improve access to healthcare nationwide.
“This is exciting news for students in our nursing programs as well as our alumni,” said Dr. Jean Truman, director of nursing programs at Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Titusville. “Opportunities now exist for registered nurses interested in continuing their education in our online RN-to-BSN program, providing greater clinical prospects.”
Pitt-Bradford created the online RN-to-BSN program to make it easier for working nurses to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The program is for registered nurses who already have an associate degree or nursing diploma and have passed the NCLEX exam.
Students can complete the program in just two terms after finishing their general education credits. Faculty members are experienced nurses with advanced degrees who continue to work in local communities. Classes cover professional nursing concepts, research, community health, and health promotion.
Since Pitt-Bradford began its associate nursing program in 1979, it has prepared nurses for success in the field. Earning a BSN is linked to better patient care, higher salaries, and leadership roles. With the compact, Pitt-Bradford graduates can take their skills — and make an impact — in more places than ever before.
