Bascom’s writings have international bent

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will host acclaimed author and essayist Tim Bascom as part of its visiting writer series on Tuesday. The free event will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Studio Theater in Blaisdell Hall on the Pitt-Bradford campus.

Bascom is the author of a new short story collection, “Continental Drift,” as well as a novel, two collections of essays and two prize-winning memoirs chronicling his childhood years in East Africa.

His essays have been selected for the prestigious anthologies “Best Creative Nonfiction” and “Best American Travel Writing.” His short fiction has appeared in Zone 3, Front Range Review and Flint Hills Review, and he is the recipient of the Briar Cliff Fiction Prize.

Bascom earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa and taught creative writing at the college level for 20 years. He currently serves as director of the Kansas Book Festival.

On the Side Books will have copies of Bascom's books available for purchase at the event.
