Athletic and academic camps planned for summer
Soccer, swimming, programming, CSI, writing and leadership offered

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will offer seven athletic and scholastic camps this summer for youth ages 7 to 17.
This summer’s slate of camps will begin in mid-May and end in August and provide a variety of unique experiences. There is a cost and an enrollment cap for each camp. Grades mentioned for each camp are for students entering those grades. Pitt-Bradford women’s soccer will hold three ID Camps for serious high school athletes who aspire to play at the collegiate level. This camp offers players the opportunity to train in a competitive environment, highlight their skills and gain exposure.
Facilitated by head women’s soccer coach Lorenzo Rodriguez, camps will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17, May 31 and June 14 at Rathburn Family Field. Registration is $100 and includes a camp T-shirt. In the case of severe weather, the camp will be postponed until the following day.
Swimming Training Camp is a high-energy, technique-focused program designed for competitive swimmers who want to take their swimming to the next level. Led by head swim coach Chelsea Schwab and other experienced coaches and current college athletes, the camp blends advanced stroke refinement, dry land, endurance building, race strategy and mental toughness training.
For 3rd through 6th grade students, camp will take place from 9 a.m. to noon June 9 through June 13 in the Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center. The cost is $100 and includes a camp T-shirt. Campers should bring their own goggles, swimsuits, caps, towels, snorkels, fins, kickboard, pull buoy, tennis shoes and dry land attire. Campers should also bring lunch and a water bottle.
Camp for 7th through 12th graders is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sport and Fitness Center. The cost is $175.
During the same week, teens from age 13 to 17 can attend Video Game Programming Summer Camp from 9 a.m. to noon on June 9, 11 and 13. Campers will dive into modern game development using the same tools professionals use for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.
They will explore game design and programming fundamentals using C# and JavaScript, learning how to code core game mechanics and interactive scenarios. Participants will also gain firsthand experience with 3D modeling, asset creation, and level design. Using Unity, campers will develop, test, and publish their own playable game prototypes, gaining insight into the full game development lifecycle. The cost is $75.
From June 23-26, students from age 12 to 16 can solve a different kind of problem at Pitt-Bradford’s Crime Scene Investigation Summer Camp. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, students will learn about lab safety, crime scene analysis, fingerprinting, footprint casting, soil analysis and more as they investigate a crime at Pitt-Bradford’s CSI House. Facilitated by Dr. Robin Choo, director of Pitt-Bradford’s forensic science program, the camp costs $99 and includes all supplies, a T-shirt and wrap-up pizza party.
Young writers can explore techniques for writing poetry, fiction, short stories and personal narratives at Developing Your Voice: A Creative Writing Summer Camp for students ages 12 to 14. The camp, directed by Matt Salvia, assistant professor of composition, is from 9 a.m. to noon June 30 through July 2. $40 includes a T-shirt.
In July, students entering grades 9 through 12 can attend Disrupting the Narrative: Youth Leadership and Social Change Summer Camp. Students will expand their leadership abilities and strengthen skills of trust and connection to build effective communities. Led by Stephanie Eckstrom, coordinator of the Master of Social Work program at Pitt-Bradford, the camp will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. July 14 through 17. The cost is $25 and includes a T-shirt.
Finally, Creative Explorations: Art Camp Adventures will take place July 28 through Aug. 1. This camp has sold out.
