Annual Advent and Christmas organ recital planned
Guest organist has performed in U.S., England and Japan
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will present its 14th Annual Advent and Christmas Organ Recital from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in the Harriett B. Wick Chapel. The event is free and open to the campus and community.
This year’s recital will feature Dr. John Sherer, a highly accomplished musician and current organist and director of music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Rochester, N.Y. Sherer previously served for 28 years as organist and director of music at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago, where he oversaw the construction and installation of the 147-rank Quimby organ, one of the largest church pipe organs in the United States.
Sherer has performed recitals throughout the United States, England and Japan. He holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Yale University and the Juilliard School.
The annual concert showcases the Sarah B. Dorn Organ, a signature feature of the Wick Chapel. Attendees are invited to experience the instrument’s full range through a program performed by an internationally recognized artist.
