Alumni and Family Weekend set for Sept. 26-28

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will welcome back alumni and family of current students Sept. 26 and 27. And although it’s Alumni and Family Weekend, the public is invited to take part in many activities on campus and in downtown Bradford.

Events are free unless otherwise noted. Reservations for events can be made at upb.pitt.edu/AFW

Friday, Sept. 26

6:30 to 9 p.m. – Light Up the Quad, Robert B. Bromeley Quadrangle and Hanley Library. Join students, alumni, parents, families, faculty and staff to kick off the weekend in perfect Pitt-Bradford style by lighting up the quad in blue and gold. Plus, this year’s festivities will include the big reveal of the name selected for the Panther mascot by members of the Pitt-Bradford community. Registration required.

Saturday, Sept. 27

10 to 10:45 a.m. – Memorial Tree Dedication for Christina Graham Hansen, Harriett B. Wick Chapel. The Pitt-Bradford Student Government Association will dedicate a tree to Hansen, director of student activities from 2002 until 2019 and a beloved mentor to students, advisor to SGA and trusted friend and colleague.

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. – Nursing Simulation Lab Tours, Swarts Hall, 2nd floor. Visit Pitt-Bradford’s modern nursing simulation and learning skills lab and see firsthand how our students are preparing for successful careers in the medical field. Students manage real-life scenarios in the mock patient room while professors watch and offer guidance from behind one-way glass in the control room. Reservation required.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Virtual Reality Lab Experience, George B. Duke Engineering and Information Technologies Building. Step into a world of endless possibilities with our thrilling Virtual Reality Lab Experience! Explore new dimensions, embark on epic adventures, and immerse yourself in innovative VR technology.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Friends of Hanley Library Book Sale. Hanley Library.

11:30 to 1 p.m. – Crime Scene Investigation House tour, CSI House (found off the campus loop on the west end of campus). Step into the world of forensic science with a tour of the CSI House on campus. This facility offers a fascinating glimpse into the techniques and technologies used in crime scene investigation. Whether you’re a prospective student, an alum, or just a curious visitor, the CSI House tour promises an engaging and educational experience. Reservation required. 

Noon to 2 p.m. -- Pumpkin Carving Master Class with Eric Jones. George B. Duke Engineering and Information Technologies Building patio. Pumpkin carving class with Eric Jones, 2023 Guiness World Record holder for carving the world’s largest Jack-o’-lantern. He was also the winner of Food Network’s Outrageous Pumpkins in season 3 and a finalist in Food Network’s Halloween Wars. Reservation required. The cost is $10 per person. Children younger than 5 must have adult help.

Noon to 4 p.m. – Bradford Pumpkin Fest, Main Street, Bradford, featuring the Pitt-Bradford Kids Zone.

1 p.m. – Alumni swim meet and after party, Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center, Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center. Join alumni and student swimmers in the Duke Aquatic Center. Make a splash at the pool party or unwind on the patio with yard games. Light refreshments will be served after the meet. 1 p.m. – Alumni baseball game, Kessel Athletic Complex. For more information, contact Head Baseball Coach Zach Foster at zdf@pitt.edu.

6 to 7:30 p.m. – Alumni Awards Dinner and Athletic Hall of Fame Induction. 5:30 p.m. cocktail hour. Mukaiyama University Room, Frame-Westerberg Commons. Reservations required. Adults $25 per person. Children aged 6-12, $12. Children aged 5 and younger, free. Attire is business casual. Honoring Dr. William Clark, assistant professor and coordinator of secondary education, with the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association Teaching Award and Jenny Crytzer ’08 with the Denny Lowery Distinguished Volunteer Award. Evan Greening ’17, men’s basketball, and Zach Foster ’12, baseball, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
