Service & Civic Engagement

Service

Serve Boldly. Lead Bravely.

Looking to create change, give back, and grow as a leader? Service and civic engagement are powerful ways to make a positive impact—on campus, in the community, and beyond.

At Pitt-Bradford, we believe that your college experience should be more than academics. Through volunteer opportunities, service, advocacy, and community partnerships, you’ll gain hands-on experience while making meaningful contributions to causes that matter to you.

Whether you have a few hours to spare or want to take on a long-term project, there’s a place for you to get involved. You’ll build skills, meet new people, and become part of something bigger.

Make Your Service Matter: Start with a Pre-Service Workshop

Before diving into your volunteer experience, it’s essential to understand what you’ll be doing and why it matters.

Our Pre-Service Workshop will help you:

  • Learn about the mission and work of the organization you’re serving
  • Understand your role and how it supports the bigger picture
  • Clarify expectations, responsibilities, and boundaries
  • Reflect on what it means to engage respectfully and responsibly in the community

Taking the time to prepare helps ensure that your service is meaningful, effective, and respectful of the people and communities you're supporting. Whether it's your first time volunteering or you’re a returning participant, this workshop sets the foundation for a positive and impactful experience.

Want to Make Your Service Work for You?

Don’t skip the post-service reflection! Taking a few minutes to reflect helps you get the most out of your experience—and makes it count.

By completing the Post-Service Reflection Activity, you’ll:

  • Ensure your service hours are officially recorded
  • Become eligible for service awards and recognition
  • Gain insight into the impact of your work
  • Strengthen your resume with real, community-centered experience
  • Show future employers that you’re not just involved—you’re intentional

Your service matters. Let’s make sure it shines on paper and in practice!

Civic Engagement

Use Your Voice. Take Action.

Student-led civic engagement empowers you to take the lead on issues you care about—building the knowledge, skills, and values you need to create real change in your community.

College is more than earning a degree—it’s a chance to become an active, informed member of your community and the world around you.

At Pitt-Bradford, civic engagement means getting involved in the issues you care about, learning how to advocate for change, and using your voice to shape the future. Whether it's through voter registration drives, public forums, community organizing, or service-based learning, you'll find opportunities to grow as both a student and a citizen.

We’re here to help you:

  • Explore ways to get involved on campus and in the community
  • Find service opportunities that match your interests
  • Connect with student organizations and local partners
  • Take part in events that have a positive impact
