Short Bio

Joshua Kramer is a cybersecurity educator and software engineer whose professional and academic interests lie at the intersection of cybersecurity, digital forensics, software development, education, community service, and lifelong learning. Through his teaching, he aspires to prepare students to become not only capable cybersecurity professionals and technologists, but also ethical stewards of the digital world.

At the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Joshua teaches courses in cybersecurity, digital forensics, network security and cryptography, and ethical hacking. In the classroom, he strives to emphasize hands-on learning and connect technical concepts with practical, ethical, and societal implications.

He completed his Master of Science in Computer Security at Rochester Institute of Technology in 2022, where his graduate capstone focused on building and analyzing a composite ransomware specimen. He has also earned academic certificates in Computer Forensics, Digital Forensics, Network Security, and Cybersecurity Risk Management.  His current research interest include secure data-sharing architectures.

In addition to teaching, Joshua is employed as a Programmer Analyst at KOA Speer Electronics, where he has co-designed and implemented a custom tariff reimbursement system supporting the company's applications for duty drawback from the United States government. His software development experience includes C, PHP, Java, Python, COBOL, and Kotlin across Windows, Linux, and IBM i platforms. His database experience includes Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and IBM Db2.

Joshua is also active in Scouting and community cybersecurity education. In 2025, he participated as a reviewer in the development process for Scouting America's Cybersecurity Merit Badge. He has since served as a Cybersecurity Merit Badge Counselor and developed hands-on cybersecurity activities for younger Scouts. In 2026, he submitted a proposal to Scouting America for the creation of a national Digital Forensics Merit Badge. His community outreach has also included introducing elementary-school students to cybersecurity concepts.

Outside of his professional and community activities, Joshua enjoys hiking, chess, and participating in Scouting activities with his wife and children.
