Using ancient pottery techniques such as hand-built coiling, slab construction, and traditional pit firing, Peter Jones creates ceramic vessels that honor generations of Haudenosaunee craftsmanship and cultural knowledge. His sculptural works portray storytellers, medicine women, warriors, and wampum readers, celebrating Indigenous history, identity, and resilience through powerful visual narratives.
Jones is an Onondaga citizen of the Beaver Clan and one of the foremost contemporary Haudenosaunee artists. Growing up on the Cattaraugus Seneca Reservation, Jones developed an artistic practice deeply rooted in Indigenous traditions while creating work that speaks to contemporary audiences.
A graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he studied under the renowned Hopi artist Otellie Loloma, Jones has become both an internationally recognized artist and an important mentor within the Haudenosaunee arts community. His work is included in the collections of the Seneca Iroquois National Museum, the Syracuse University Art Museum, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, and numerous public and private collections. This exhibition runs until April 23, 2027.
