Short Bio

Ashish Kumar P is a first-generation university graduate, documentary filmmaker, and interdisciplinary artist from Hyderabad, India. He began his career in Video production from Bollywood film and television production, working in the editing team, before moving into independent practice that explores caste, memory, and identity through film, sound, and collaborative art. His teaching in media production emphasizes critical thinking, creative experimentation, and community engagement. He teaches video and sound production, focusing on interdisciplinary practice and storytelling. Beyond the classroom and studio, Ashish loves cooking and preparing food for others in a fusion style, a practice that mirrors his creative approach of blending traditions, perspectives, and forms to create something new and shared.

Academic Focus

His academic focus centers on fostering critical thinking and creative exploration in video, radio, and digital media production, with an emphasis on cultural diversity and inclusive perspectives. He encourages students to experiment with form, approach, and storytelling, giving them the freedom to explore ideas in unconventional ways. Through his teaching, students learn to question media messages, reflect on how media shapes perceptions of identity and society, and develop innovative approaches to production. He guides them to think critically and creatively, equipping them to challenge dominant narratives, embrace diverse viewpoints, and contribute to experimental, thoughtful, and socially conscious media landscapes.
