Pitt-Bradford merit-based scholarships range from $1,000 to $12,500

Many types of scholarships are always offered

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford offers many types of scholarships, including scholarships that are based on merit, not financial need, which range from $12,500 to $1,000 per year.

“November is National Scholarship Month,” said Dr. James Baldwin, vice president for enrollment management, “which is a great time to raise awareness of the many scholarships available at Pitt-Bradford, including merit scholarships.”

Merit scholarships at Pitt-Bradford are based, in part, on a student’s academic performance, not their financial need.

Pitt-Bradford offers merit scholarships for both Pennsylvania and out-of-state students who are enrolled full time. The scholarships are based on a student’s cumulative weighted high school GPA and SAT or ACT score. Other scholarship criteria include whether a student lives on campus or commutes.

Merit scholarships also are available for transfer and international students as well as transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

“Currently, 442 Pennsylvania students and 148 students from other states, territories and countries receive a merit scholarship,” Baldwin said, “which provides significant support to help them afford a quality education and reduce their overall debt when they graduate.”

For many students, receiving merit scholarships helps to alleviate some of their financial pressure, enabling them to concentrate on their studies.

“Having a merit scholarship allows me to focus more on my academics,” said Paige Allen, a broadcast communications major from McKeesport, “because it reduces the stress of paying off school after I graduate.”

In-state and out-of-state students may receive a merit scholarship for up to four years as long as they continue as full-time students, maintain a 2.25 GPA and meet the other scholarship requirements. For example, if their scholarship requires that they live on campus, they must continue to do so.

The highest annual merit award for Pennsylvania students for the 2024-25 academic year is $7,000. New first-year students are eligible for this award if they enroll full time, live on campus, have a high school GPA of at least 2.7, and a combined SAT score of 1230 or ACT score of 25 or greater.

Incoming first-year Pennsylvania students who live on campus but haven’t taken or choose not to submit SAT or ACT scores may qualify for the $7,000 scholarship if they have a high school GPA of at least 3.8.

Pitt-Bradford also offers merit scholarships to out-of-state students. Those scholarships are higher to help offset the higher out-of-state tuition.

The highest annual merit award for out-of-state students for the 2024-25 academic year is $12,500. New first-year out-of-state students may be eligible for this scholarship if they enroll full time, live on campus, have a high school GPA of 2.7, and an SAT score of 1230 or ACT score of 25 or greater.

Out-of-state new first-year students who live on campus who have not taken the SAT or ACT – or choose to not submit their scores – may qualify for the $12,500 scholarship if they have a high school GPA of at least 3.8.
