The Friends of Hanley Library will present “25 Years, 25 Books – A Retrospective Discussion with John Schlimm” at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Harriett B. Wick Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

Schlimm, who has attended and taught at Pitt-Bradford, is a Harvard-trained educator, artist, advocate, and international award-winning author of twenty-five books that span multiple genres, including memoir, essays, culinary and entertaining, history, children's literature, workbooks and activity books, and other nonfiction works. His newest books are “What Would Gen-Z Do?”, “Everything You Don’t Know About Gen-Z But Should” and a picture book for children titled “The Star Jumped Over the Moon.”

His other works include the Christopher Award-winning memoir “Five Years in Heaven: The Unlikely Friendship That Answered Life’s Greatest Questions,” “Extraordinary Dogs: Stories from Search and Rescue Dogs,” “Comfort Dogs, and Other Canine Heroes,” “Moonshine: A Celebration of America’s Original Rebel Spirit,” “Stand Up!: 75 Young Activists Who Rock the World.” 

He has written a series of plant-based cookbooks that includes “The Tipsy Vegan,” “Grilling Vegan Style,” and “The Cheesy Vegan” as well as “The Ultimate Beer Lover’s Happy Hour.”

Several of his books have been devoted to kindness, including “The Creative Kindness Zine Workbook,” which was co-authored by Megan Murphy.

Schlimm is also the creator of such multimedia participatory and public art projects as The Gen-Z Time Capsule in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Museum and THE SMILE THAT CHANGED THE WORLD (is yours).

He has appeared on such national media outlets as “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Hallmark Channel’s “Home & Family,” Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live,” NPR, Martha Stewart Living’s Everyday Food,” “The Splendid Table,” QVC and Eternal World Television Network’s “The World Over.”
