• The Firemen’s Monument on Oak Hill. Dedicated during Old Home Week celebrations
in August 1909 as a tribute to all volunteer firemen, the statue has gazed over the
city for more than 100 years, surrounded by the graves of those firemen. Jim Long,
retired fireman, has made it his mission to learn the history behind the monument
and will present an entertaining and informative PowerPoint presentation.
• In the Spirit of Sacrifice and Heroism, the Civil War. As a collector of Civil War
artifacts and a student of the Civil War, Bob Longnecker, local historian, will share
stories of his family’s participation in the war: letters home, battles fought,
sacrifices made. Authentic artifacts from the war will also be on display
