
The TRiO
Student Support Services program is the only one of its kind in the
Northwest Region of Pennsylvania.
It is a specialized support program started in 1965 under the Title IV of the
Higher Education Act. The program at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford
is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department
of Education. Its purpose is to encourage the personal and
academic success of eligible students thereby increasing their retention and
graduate rates.
Students
participating in the TRiO SSS program will benefit from a range of free
services, such as: assistance to
achieve and maintain focus regarding academic, personal and career goals;
on-going individual academic, personal and career counseling; strategies for
maintaining and improving QPA; assistance with study skills and life management
issues; financial aid planning; academic workshops; cultural enrichment
activities; computer learning lab services; graduate school assistance;
equipment and textbook loans and online tutoring program.
Eligibility
for the program is based on the following grant requirements:
- first generation college students – neither parent has
a Bachelor’s degree and/or
- income eligible as outlined by federal guidelines
and/or
- documented disability (learning, physical or mental
health)

- demonstrate academic need as established by the TRiO
SSS program
- be a citizen, national or permanent resident of the
United States
Students
wishing to participate in the TRiO SSS program will need to go through an
application and selection process. If selected, the student will work
with an SSS staff member to form
an individualized academic plan. The SSS staff will then monitor academic
performance and progress through individual and group meetings with students.
