Susan Schenfield is entering her fifth season as the head women’s and men’s tennis coach at Pitt-Bradford.
Schenfield was responsible for starting both programs in 2008.
The women totaled five victories in 2012 and advanced to the AMCC tournament. Kayla Branch and sisters Sarah and Emily Fowkes were named to the all-AMCC team. Branch and Sarah Fowkes were one of the top doubles team in the league, and Emily Fowkes earned recognition at the No. 6 singles flight.
In 2011, the women matched their seven wins from the previous season and finished fourth in the AMCC with a record of 5-3. Pitt-Bradford posted a fourth-place finish at the AMCC championships and two players were named to the all-conference squad.
In 2010, Pitt-Bradford put together its best season yet, finishing 7-4 overall and third in the AMCC during the regular season with a 6-2 record. A total of five players earned all-conference honors, and the Panthers finished in a tie for second at the AMCC championships.
On the men's side, the Panthers went 3-7 in 2013. Much like the women, the men had its best season in the spring of 2011 with a 4-7 overall record. The four wins matched the team’s win total from the previous two seasons.
Her players have excelled off the court as well. Her women’s team has finished with the top GPA among all the University’s athletic teams twice, and she has had both a male and female named the Pitt-Bradford Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In addition, two men’s players have received the Pitt-Bradford Triangle of Success honor that recognizes student-athletes each year who exhibit the following attributes; dedication to their sport, positive attitude, athletic ability, citizenship, character, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Schenfield was the longtime tennis coach at Bradford Area High School. She coached the boys from 1983-94 and the girls from 1987-96. She also serves as a tennis class instructor at Pitt-Bradford and was the head tennis pro at the St. Bonaventure University Fitness Center from 2002-04. Schenfield was the assistant tennis pro at Chautauqua Institution for two years, 2005-07, before joining Pitt-Bradford.
She is a member of the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), and is certified as a PTR Professional and PTR Professional - Junior Development.
She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration/accounting from Penn State University.
Schenfield currently resides in Bradford, Pa.
