Position Title: Director of Advising Center
Qualifications and Requirements:
The position of Director of Academic Advising and Retention Center requires strong interpersonal and administrative skills, as well as sensitivity to student, parent, academic, and campus life issues. Individuals with program management experience related to multiculturalism and/or issues related to campus diversity are of particular interest. A master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, education, or related field is required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years' full-time experience in a college or university setting.
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, one of four regional institutions in the prestigious University of Pittsburgh system, seeks a full-time (12-month) director to provide leadership and supervision for the Academic Advising Center. The Academic Advising Center assists students in making decisions affecting their progress through personal and academic guidance, career exploration, interpretation of university guidelines and policies, referrals to other student services, and decisions based on an analysis of the students' academic records. The focus includes advising and working with at-risk student populations, students exploring majors, and students who have declared a major in General Studies (BA) or Liberal Studies (AS).
The director will report to the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and Registrar and will work collaboratively with other university staff in providing a broad array of services and programs. This position is classified as Student Services III, and pays a competitive salary along with a full University benefits package and professional development funds
The Academic Advising Center is responsible for all aspects of the planning, coordination, and administration of the programs and services provided by this unit, to include intrusive advising for populations of students identified as at-risk, scheduling incoming students, and planning academic portions of orientation. The Director also assists in developing and maintaining a productive, organized early-alert system for students at academic risk. The Director makes contacts with undergraduate populations through one-on-one and small-group contact, which includes all academic levels of undergraduate students, and provides support through creative programming and networking. Aspects of this position include outreach to students, faculty, and staff to promote Academic Advising Center services; training coordination with chairs, program directors, and faculty; workshops for new and continuing faculty regarding Academic Advising Center services; collaborative processes and projects with other campus units; and the ongoing assessment of these and other academic success programs. The Director maintains appropriate communication with all constituents and must have a strong commitment to student success. This individual incorporates the trends, theories, and practices of student retention and learning, and plays a key role in helping to plan and implement the academic success component in an enrollment management model.
