Course Description:
Suggests how great thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Marx, and Freud understood human nature, viewed the conditions or requirements for happiness, and defined the social and political forms that contribute to or detract from human fulfillment. In short, the course seeks to define the basic alternatives that guide our thinking about the good life and the good society.
