Born in France to U.S. military parents, Julie lived in Tokyo, Okinawa, Spain, and Missouri as a young girl.  She has attended or worked at institutions of higher learning virtually all her adult life, including the University of Rochester, SUNY Fredonia, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Boston University.

She is actively involved as an advisor for Alpha Phi Omega (Alpha Beta Rho chapter), which is a national coed service fraternity.  She also works on the planning committees for Women’s History Month, the Cultural Festival, and Empty Bowls and Baskets dinner.  In her spare time, she volunteers with the Friends of the Memorial Library of Little Valley (NY).
