December 2011 News and Notes

Holiday Party

I hope you will join members of the faculty and staff for food, drink and merriment at the annual Holiday Reception, which will be held on Monday, December 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Frame-Westerberg Commons.  Back by popular demand, Staff Infection will provide the entertainment.  Please plan to have your guest join us, and RSVP to Barb Uscinski at or 362-7501.

Holiday Recess

Please make note that the University will be closed from Friday, December 23 through Monday, January 2, 2012.  We will reopen on Tuesday, January 3.  This is well-deserved time off for our faculty and staff, and I wish you an enjoyable break.

University Policy on Crime Reporting

In the wake of the child abuse tragedy that occurred at Penn State, I am taking this opportunity to remind all of us of the University’s standing policy on Campus Crime Awareness: Crime Reporting, Crime Alerts and Emergency Notification: Please review this policy and note the expectation that faculty, staff and students will promptly report all criminal incidents occurring on campus, or that involve the University community, to Campus Police.

Smoking Policy

Pitt-Bradford prohibits smoking in all residence halls, University buildings and outdoor building entrances designated with a plaque as “Non-Smoking Areas”.   Smoking in the non-smoking areas is prohibited.  Faculty and staff are expected to serve as models for students in adhering to the established smoking policy.

Staffing of Arts Programming

The major reduction in our Rural Education Outreach funding impacted us in numerous ways, notably in the area of Arts Programming.  On October 31, we said farewell to Mr. Randy Mayes who served as Director of Arts Programming.  Ms. Patty Colosimo and Dr. Les Buhite have stepped in to assume additional duties, and we are grateful for their efforts and dedication.  Also, thank you to the faculty and staff who have volunteered to help at various events.
