BRADFORD, Pa. – Pitt-Bradford first baseman Joe Chittester
was named to the All-Valley League second team as a designated hitter, as
announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Chittester has spent the 2014 summer playing in the Valley
League with the New Market Rebels of New Market, Va. The Valley League is an
NCAA-sanctioned collegiate summer baseball league in the Shenandoah Valley
region of Virginia. Each Valley Baseball League season consists of 44 games
played during the summer. Many Valley Baseball League players have continued on
to play in Major League Baseball.
In 31 games played this summer, Chittester recorded 29 hits
in 98 appearances at the plate for a .296 average. He tallied seven doubles and
scored a total of 11 runs. He recorded 17 RBI and four stolen bases with 23
Chittester finished his 2014 Pitt-Bradford season ranked
second on the team with a .304 average. He recorded 34 hits in 112 appearances
and scored 24 runs. He laced six doubles and cracked two home runs.
While at first base, he finished with a .975 fielding
percentage and was responsible for nine assists and a team-high 189 putouts. He
was also a perfect 1-for-1 in stolen bases.
