ERIE, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford softball team suffered a 9-3
defeat to Mount Aloysius in an elimination game of the Allegheny Mountain
Collegiate Conference Tournament on Sunday, May 4.
With the defeat, Pitt-Bradford (23-13, 15-5) ends its run at
a conference championship and finishes the season in third place.
Sophomore Jenifer Anthony received the start in the circle
for the Lady Panthers. Anthony tossed 4.1 innings of work and allowed six runs,
five earned, on 10 hits. She struck out four. In the fifth, junior Krista
Jacobs relieved Anthony and finished the game. Jacobs surrendered three runs,
all earned, on four hits. She fanned one.
Senior Sydney Mosby, playing in her final collegiate
contest, was a perfect 2-for-2 in the batter’s box. Mosby leaves a strong
legacy as the go-to player on the Panthers’ roster for the past four seasons.
The Panthers jumped on the board first in the top of the
third as two runs crossed. Mount Aloysius got one back in the bottom half as
the two teams finished the third inning with Pitt-Bradford leading 2-1.
In the fourth, the Mounties worked another runner across to
even the score at two runs each. In the fifth and the sixth, Mount Aloysius
found a way to produce seven runs in just two innings.
The deficit was too large for the Lady Panthers to overcome
as they fell to the Mounties in the end.
Pitt-Bradford loses two players to eligibility, Mosby and
Carly Lynn. The remainder of the squad will return in 2015 looking to make
another run deep into the conference tournament.
