The Pitt-Bradford swimming team opened its 2013-14 campaign
with a fourth place finish at the Panther Relays at the Paul C. Duke Aquatics
Center on Saturday afternoon.
Notre Dame College took first place in the event with a
total of 176 points. Penn State Behrend finished with 116 points to take second
and Penn State Altoona tallied 132 points to finish third.
Host Pitt-Bradford claimed 112 points in the meet to finish fourth.
Franciscan University (52) and Ursuline College (22) rounded out the six teams
that competed in the event.
Pitt-Bradford won two events during the meet. The first
event was the men’s 300 backstroke that finished with a final time of 2:56.08.
The team was made up of Zack France, Troy Matthews, Tyler Ozehowski and Matt
The second event was the men’s 800 freestyle. The Panthers
finished with a time of 7:42.76 and the team was made up of Zack France, Eric
Frank, Jeff Cattoni and Matt Patterson.
Pitt-Bradford recorded second place finishes in the men’s
300 butterly and the mixed 200 medley. Third place finishes came by way of the
women’s 300 butterfly, men’s 300 breaststroke, men’s 400 medley and the mixed
“It was a great meet for us as a team,” said head coach Ed
Bahan. “Our new athletes are doing best times by six to eight seconds. Our
veterans are way ahead of where they were a year ago.”
Pitt-Bradford is back at home on Saturday, Oct. 26, when it
hosts Cabrini in a dual meet at the Paul C. Duke Aquatics Center at 1 p.m.
