Pitt-Bradford junior Andrew Bird was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week following his first place finish at the Medaille Invitational, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Bird carded a team and tournament-best 76 on his way to a first place finish after a one-hole playoff that sealed the victory. Both he and John Macchia, of Hilbert College, finished the round tied for first to advance to the playoff.

Bird’s final score of 76 falls one stroke shy of tying his season low of 75, shot at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational on Aug. 31 of this year.

He becomes the only Pitt-Bradford golfer to receive the honor this season, and one of four Panthers to be awarded player of the week this year in their respective sports.

“He has been knocking on the door all season, and I am happy he finally broke through,” said head coach Keith Stauffer. “He works hard and is one of the top golfers in this conference.”

Bird and the Panthers hit the road this weekend to compete in the AMCC Championships. The tournament begins on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. in West Middlesex, Pa.
