The Pitt-Bradford women’s tennis team suffered a 6-3 defeat
to visiting Keuka on Sunday afternoon at the Kessel Athletic Complex. The
Panthers played a 10-game pro set.
Pitt-Bradford (4-8, 3-5) opened the match with its top
doubles team, Stephanie Krall and Jamie VanAlstine, losing 9-7. Emily Fowkes
and Constance Cui kept it close before also being defeated 9-7. The Panthers
final doubles team, Sara James and Amy Thomas, suffered an 8-1 defeat.
In singles play, Fowkes retired in the first game due to an
undisclosed injury. Krall defeated Nikki Wilkins 10-6 in game two to keep the
Panthers hopes alive. In game three, VanAlstine went toe-to-toe with Sarah
Schneider of Keuka for the entire set. She finally put the game away and earned
the victory with a final score of 10-10 (8).
Down 4-2 heading into game four, Cui was outmatched and lost
10-5. James lost 10-8 in game five and Thomas defeated Savannah Fuller 10-5 in
game six to equal the final score.
The Panthers will begin preparations for AMCC Preliminaries
that take place on Saturday, Oct. 12.
