The Pitt-Bradford volleyball team defeated Alfred University
3-1 on Tuesday night for their its straight victory.
Pitt-Bradford (7-11, 2-0) jumped out to an early lead in
game one and went on to defeat the Saxons 25-14. Taylor McMillen led the
Panthers with 13 kills, four aces and three blocks. Close behind was teammate
Brittni Cumberland, who had eight kills, three aces and 22 assists.
The Panthers won game two by a final score of 25-19. The
quick start was just what Pitt-Bradford was looking for heading into tonight,
with a chance for the 3-0 sweep.
However, in game three Alfred would not go quietly and
eventually defeated the Panthers, 30-28. Kelsey Repke kept the game alive on
more than one occasion and tallied 22 digs on the night.
Game four began with each team swapping the lead
continuously before Pitt-Bradford finally took over and claimed a 25-17 victory
on match point.
“It was a nice win for us tonight. We did some good things
and are starting to get some flow on offense," said head coach Tina Phillips. "We still gave some points
away at key times, especially in that third game. We have to get better at
siding out on our own on a more consistent basis. I thought Brittni and Peyton
ran a good offense tonight and Taylor and Kaitlin gave us some big blocks."
The Panthers return to conference play this weekend as they travel
to Franciscan on Saturday, Oct. 5, for a match at 2 p.m.
