Pitt-Bradford shuts out La Roche 2-0

The Pitt-Bradford women’s soccer team outshot La Roche on Saturday afternoon 21-7 en route to a 2-0 shutout in Pittsburgh.

Pitt-Bradford’s (5-3-1, 1-0) Maggie Boehler and Sarah Turner each registered four shots on goal during the contest. Goalkeeper Danielle Erdley needed just two saves and didn’t allow a goal on seven shots by the Redhawks.

In the first half, Casey Schimpf sent a pass to Melissa Smith who stopped just outside the box and sent the ball into the net for the 1-0 lead.

La Roche (2-7-2, 0-1) goalkeeper Maria DiPerna managed 10 saves in the contest with six of them coming before halftime. Lindsey McKay led the Redhawks with three shots on goal.

In the second half, Pitt-Bradford’s Shaytra Ewell sent a pass up field to an open Boehler who sprinted toward the net on a breakaway. Boehler drove a shot into the net for the 2-0 lead and her eighth goal of the season, a team high.

The Panthers return to the field next Saturday, Oct. 5, when they host Mt. Aloysius at 3 p.m. at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
