Elmira defeats men's soccer in double-overtime

Elmira scored two minutes into double-overtime to defeat the Pitt-Bradford men's soccer team 2-1 Saturday.

The Soaring Eagles dominated the stats, outshooting the Panthers 35-5 and holding an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.

Elmira broke a scoreless tie in the 75th minute with the game's first score, and it looked poised to win the match until the final seconds. On a throw-in with 22 seconds remaining, Samuel Franchi collected a loose ball in front of the net and scored, forcing overtime. It was Franchi's first career goal.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the Soaring Eagles lined up for a corner kick early in the second and Brian Lowe found the back of the net for the game-winner.

Adam Forster made 12 stops in net despite suffering the loss.

Pitt-Bradford drops to 2-4 on the season and hosts Alfred State Sunday at 1 p.m.
