The Pitt-Bradford men's golf team is set to open the 2013 season Saturday by hosting the 15th annual Pitt-Bradford Invitational.
The Panthers return just one starter from a year ago, senior Christian Holzwarth. The Bradford native has ranked first or second on the team the last two years in stroke average.
Senior Zach Tarbell returns after a one-year hiatus. He finished 13th at the 2011 AMCC championships and posted a pair of top five finishes.
Transfers Andrew Bird and Zach Spicer will be relied upon heavily, according to head coach Keith Stauffer. Both bring the experience and work ethic Stauffer sought in the offseason while recruiting.
Sophomores Seth Mollander and Tom Morlock return as well. Mollander finished tied for 10th at the Penn State Behrend Invitational last year, and Morlock was tied for 16th at the D'Youville Spartan Shootout.
Others vying for playing time include senior Ryan Marshall and freshmen John Bedford, Alex Hunter and Lucas Moye.
Pitt-Bradford finished eighth at the AMCC championships in 2012, something Stauffer doesn't want to repeat.
"It looks like we have some new guys who are very eager to get going," said Stauffer. "They want to hang another banner in the Sports Center. It has been way too long.
"I, too, am very eager to get the season under way. I want to see these guys do their best and make their mark at Pitt-Bradford."
