Pitt-Bradford junior baseball player Aaron Cressley was named the Virginia Valley Baseball League Pitcher of the Day Monday after tossing seven shutout innings for the New Market Rebels.
Cressley scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings against the Rockbridge Rapids while walking three and striking out four to improve to 2-0. New Market won the game 6-0 for its fourth straight win and to remain a game back of the Harrisonburg Turks for first place in the South Division.
In four starts for the Rebels, Cressley has an ERA of 1.17, ranking him in the top 10 in the league. In 23 innings pitched, he has collected 16 strikeouts and yet to allow more than an earned run in any start.
The Corry, Pa., native was a second-team all-AMCC selection this spring for the Panthers after anchoring the pitching staff with a 2.25 ERA and 33 strikeouts.
