Pitt-Bradford senior second baseman Derek Smith was named a preseason honorable mention All-American by Wednesday.

Smith, the reigning AMCC Player of the Year, was a D3baseball honorable mention All-American last year after ranking in the top 10 nationally in batting average (.482), runs batted in (57), slugging percentage (.788) and on base percentage (.535). He led the conference in those same four categories in addition to total hits (66).

The Jersey Shore, Pa., native tied a Pitt-Bradford single-season record in 2012 with seven home runs, and he became the program's all-time RBI leader with a run-scoring single against La Roche in the AMCC tournament, giving him 134 for his career.

He was a named second-team Mid-Atlantic all-region pick by both and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), and twice named the AMCC hitter of the week.

Pitt-Bradford opens the season Sunday, March 3, against Allegheny in New Castle, Pa.
