Calendar/Checklist for Current Students
December/January
Be sure you and your parents, if applicable, know your
Federal Student Aid PIN
(s) (Personal Identification Numbers). Request new PIN(s), if needed.
Complete the Renewal
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web
prior to March 1 for maximum consideration of all available student aid programs. The
FAFSA on the Web Worksheet
may be helpful as you prepare your FAFSA.
You and your parents, if applicable, should complete your federal taxes before completing your
FAFSA on the Web
; if you cannot, you may estimate your income on the FAFSA.
However, it is best to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool option when filing your FAFSA.
Check with your state grant agency to determine if there are any other applications you must complete. You can also find information about state grants for out-of-state students on the Office of Student Aid Web site.
The application deadline for the
Pennsylvania State Grant
consideration is May 1 (Pennsylvania residents only).
February
Apply for Donor Scholarship through the Office of Financial Aid Web site by March 1, only if you meet the Specific Criteria needed for Special Awards -- most students are automatically considered for general awards.

Begin a student financial aid folder for all of your important papers. Include copies of all applications, tax information, and letters you receive.
Review financing strategies.
Review summer aid information. Once you are registered for summer courses you can request consideration for
Summer Work-Study.
If you will be attending Pitt-Bradford this summer and have not received the maximum amount of Federal Direct Stafford Loan eligibility during the previous fall and spring semesters, you may have remaining Federal Stafford Loan eligibility. You can request your
Summer Direct Stafford Loan
by completing the

. You may also speak with a counselor about alternative financing options.

If you are a Pennsylvania resident and you are interested in summer Pennsylvania State Grant consideration, you can apply through PHEAA between April 1 and August 1 by selecting the
Summer Pennsylvania State Grant
option. Please note this will count as one term of grant eligibility.
May
The application deadline for
Pennsylvania State Grant
consideration is May 1 (Pennsylvania residents only).
State grant agencies begin mailing aid notifications to qualifying students.
Complete your
Federal Direct Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)
, i.e., your student loan application, online if you are a first-time borrower.

You will receive a notice to your university e-mail account advising you when your Financial Aid Notification is ready to be viewed in the
Student Service Center
from the
my.pitt.edu
portal.
If you are a dependent student and your parents are interested in a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan, your parents can access information on
how to apply for a PLUS loan
on the Office of Financial Aid Web site. Your parents can complete the application after you have reviewed your Financial Aid Notification from your Student Service Center on
my.pitt.edu
.
Begin saving money for the fall semester. You should come to school with money for startup expenses, such as your books and supplies.
If you need additional funds to satisfy your tuition bill and other costs associated with your education, you can access
private alternative loan information
.
Remember you will not receive a financial aid notification until you complete verification if selected.
Respond quickly to requests and return necessary forms. When in doubt, contact the financial aid office.
Notify our financial aid office of additional funding you get for college (scholarships and loans, etc.).
Consider a cosigner to help you get your student loan.
If you take out a student loan, borrow only what you absolutely need to cover the cost of your education. When it's time to repay, you'll have other financial obligations, too.
July
Fall
tuition bill
notification arrives in your university email account.
If you wish to decrease your Federal Perkins, Federal Direct Stafford Loan(s), please complete the
loan change form
and return to the Office of Financial Aid.
Notify the financial aid office of all scholarships and loans you will receive.
Sign up for Direct Deposit. It is the quickest, safest, and easiest way to get your refund.
August
Fall tuition bill is due. Log into Pitt-Pay through
my.pitt.edu
to pay your tuition.
Your financial aid will be ready for disbursement 10 days prior to the start of the term (if all steps have been completed). If there are excess student aid funds after the tuition bill is paid in full, you will receive a refund. To learn how to expedite the receipt of your refund, visit the
Office of the Student Accounts Web site
Remember to bring money for startup expenses such as books, supplies, and off-campus apartment expenses.
September/October
Study, work hard, and enjoy!
November
Spring
tuition bill
notification arrives in your university e-mail account. Share this with your parents if they are helping pay the bill. Your student aid will appear as a credit on the bill.
December
Spring tuition bill is due. Log into Pitt-Pay through
my.pitt.edu
to pay your tuition.
