Up-and-coming pianist and composer Daniel Pesca will perform in recital this
week at the Pitt-Bradford.
The recital will take
place at 7 p.m. on February 22 in Blaisdell Hall’s Bromeley Family Theater. It
is a free offering of the university’s Spectrum Series.
Pesca
will perform Alban Berg’s Piano Sonata, Op. 1; Ludwig van Beethoven’s
Bagatelles, Op. 126; and David Crumb’s “Red Desert Triptych.”
“I’ve known Daniel for many years, and he’s an
incredibly gifted musician,” said Dr. John Levey, assistant professor of music.
“His program includes established masterworks, but also a recent piece by a
living American composer. It will be new to just about everyone, so that’s
exciting.”
Pesca
has performed at the Kennedy Center, Miller Theater, and the Chicago Cultural
Center. In the past year, he has performed concertos with the Slee Sinfonietta,
Orchestra of the League of Composers, Eastman BroadBand and Musica Nova. In
April 2013, he will perform Elliot Carter’s Double Concerto at Zankel Hall. He
spent several summers at Aspen as an orchestral piano fellow and pianist of the
Aspen Contemporary Ensemble.
Pesca’s work as pianist
and harpsichordist can be heard on CDs from Urtext Classics and Block M
Records. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in composition at Eastman School of Music where he
studies piano with Nelita True.
