Pitt-Bradford Go Beyond NYS award can save New York students more than $11,000 a year

Available to new incoming students who live in one of 24 New York counties

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford offers many types of scholarships, including one for eligible students who live in one of 24 New York counties that could save them more than $11,000 a year.

The scholarship, the Go Beyond NYS Award, is available to new incoming students who live in one of 24 New York counties: Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Cortland, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Onondaga, Ontario, Orleans, Oswego, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates.

“November is National Scholarship Month,” said Dr. James Baldwin, vice president for enrollment management, “which is a great time to highlight this special award that significantly reduces the cost of tuition for incoming students from several counties in New York state.”

For new, incoming students living in one of those 24 counties, the award would reduce their cost of tuition from the current out-of-state rate of $25,534 to $13,660, which is an $11,874 savings.

Students may receive the scholarship for up to four years, which would save them at least $47,496 over four years, as long as they maintain at least a 2.25 GPA.

“Currently, 98 New York students enrolled at Pitt-Bradford receive the Go Beyond NYS Award,” Baldwin said, “which provides significant support to help them afford a quality education and reduce their overall debt when they graduate.”

For many students, receiving the Go Beyond NYS Award helps to alleviate some of their financial pressure, enabling them to concentrate on their studies and enjoy college life.

“Thanks to this scholarship,” said Gracie Stabler, an exercise science major from Port Crane, “I’ve been able to access a quality education without the burden of financial stress.”

Spencer Sklar, a sport and recreation management major from Hinsdale, also feels less stress “while trying to pursue my passion.”

For Delaney Stowe, an exercise science major from Avoca, the scholarship was a tremendous help for the past four years. “It allowed me not just to attend school but to enjoy every minute and led me to success.”

Sarah Newland, a double major in business management and accounting from Arcade, said, “The Go Beyond NYS Award has given me the privilege to go to this wonderful, beautiful campus. My college experience had been improved, all while being able to save on tuition.”

The scholarship was established in 2014 to provide financial assistance to students living in neighboring New York state who may have never considered Pitt-Bradford because of the higher out-of-state tuition. Pitt-Bradford’s campus is only six miles from the New York state border.

Initially, the scholarship was available only to incoming new students from Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties.  However, as more students took advantage of the opportunity, university officials extended the award to students living in Erie County and then the additional 20 counties.
