When you are estimating your expenses, be aware that all University of Pittsburgh students participating in a study abroad program for academic credit will be charged an administrative fee. For a summer term it is $300, and for a fall term or a spring term it is $400. (This amount became effective spring term 2011.) The administrative fee will be billed directly through billpay once you register for the courses for a study abroad program.

You must have a valid U.S. passport. A new one now costs $100. Access an application form at http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html

There will be a mandatory health and safety meeting that all students need to attend before leaving on their trip. These are held at the end of each semester. The “Study Abroad Pre-Departure Guide” (available on the Study Abroad link above) is the basis for discussion.

You must provide proof of 4 types of insurance: major medical insurance, emergency room insurance, medical evacuation, and repatriation. Students who wish to purchase HTH Insurance should download the following form and return it, and payment, to the Study Abroad Office in 802 William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA, 15260 no later than 1 month prior to the start of their program.
