Tuna Trail "Adopt A Trail" Program
The Environmental Studies Program has adopted a portion of the Marilla Trail System and each fall the students help maintain the trail by clearing fallen trees and doing trail maintenance -- and building! Each spring (winter) student volunteers help organize and work for the Winter Festival. Students have also created and continue to develop a naturalist guide for the Richard E. McDowell Community Trail.

Grand Canyon Semester
Dr. Robar (environmental politics and studies) graduated from Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff, AZ just an hour from the Grand Canyon. NAU runs a full-semester long environmental experience each fall on the Grand Candyon and its environs. Several students have participated in this "study abroad" experience and it gives students a chance to experience a very different environment and geography.

Fall & Spring Environmental Retreats
Each fall and spring the Environmental Studies Program, the Energy Institute and the Campus Sustainability Committee organize environmental retreats. These retreats are two to three day ents at which students, faculty and staff engage in a variety of activities. The Environemntal Studies Club and the Campus Green Team Club get together with faculty and staff to plan the year's events. In the fall, everyone participates in volunteer work for National Public Lands Day. It could be anything from trail maintenance to stream restoration and river cleanup.

In the spring, students present their senior research and hold Earth Day activities. There are guest lectures, naturalist hikes, faculty talks and presentations. Community members are invited to participate. Many of the park staffers and naturalists join in as well.
