Training Room Policies and Procedures

1. The purpose of the University's athletic training room is to provide preventative and rehabilitative services to Pitt-Bradford student-athletes, visiting teams, and other appropriate people.

2. All student-athletes are required to have the following forms signed by the appropriate individuals and on file with the sports medicine department prior to the start of the first official practice:

Physical FormProof of Insurance Form Drug Free Statement Failure to do so will result in a mandatory suspension from all practices until such time as the documentation has been received by the sports medicine department.

3. The sports medicine department encourages all full-time and part-time coaches to attain and maintain American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.

4. All athletic injuries/illnesses should be reported to the head athletic trainer and/or student athletic trainer as soon as possible. Coaches should reinforce this with the student-athletes. Early intervention is often the key to early rehabilitation and return to competition. Appropriate injuries/illness will be referred.

5. Any student-athlete requiring treatment is responsible for getting to the training room one hour prior to the practice or home contest (if scheduling conflicts occur, special arrangements can be made).

6. The sports medicine staff will keep the head coach informed of her/his student-athletes injury status. Coaches are encouraged to take a positive, active role with any student-athlete requiring long-term, rehabilitation.

7. Any athlete failing to receive the required treatment as defined by the sports medicine staff will be suspended from participation until seen by the head athletic trainer.

8. All coaches, student-athletes, and staff will also be required to abide by the following training room etiquette:

• Please be courteous. A please and thank you can go a long way.

• No swearing.

• Respect all sports medicine staff members.

• No use of electrical modalities (electrical stim, ultrasound, whirlpools, etc.) without supervision of sports medicine staff member.

• No one is permitted to borrow any equipment from the training room without the consent of the head athletic trainer.

• The training room should not be considered a hang out during busy times.
