BY-LAW, ARTICLE 10 - NCAA MANUAL
GENERAL PRINCIPLE
Honesty and Sportsmanship. Individuals employed by (or associated with) a member institution to administer, conduct or coach intercollegiate athletics and all participating student-athletes shall deport themselves with honesty and sportsmanship at all times so that intercollegiate athletics as a whole their institutions and they, as individuals, shall represent the honor and dignity of fair play and the generally recognized high standards associated with wholesome competitive sports.
UNETHICAL CONDUCT
Unethical conduct by a prospective or enrolled student-athlete or an institutional staff member may include, but is not limited to, the following:
Refusal to furnish information relevant to an investigation of a possible violation of a NCAA regulation when requested to do so by the NCAA or the individual’s institution;
Knowing involvement in arranging for fraudulent academic credit or false transcripts for a prospective or an enrolled student-athlete;
Knowingly furnishing the NCAA or the individual's institution false or misleading information concerning the individual’s involvement in or knowledge of matters relevant to a possible violation or an NCAA regulation;
Receipt of benefits by an institutional staff member for facilitating or arranging a meeting between a student-athlete and an agent, financial advisor or a representative of an agent or advisor (e.g. runner). (Adopted 1/9/96)
KNOWLEDGE OF USE OF BANNED DRUGS
A member institution’s athletics department staff members or others employed by the intercollegiate athletics program who have the knowledge of a student-athlete’s use at any time of a substance on the list of banned drugs, as set forth in 31.2.3.1, shall follow institutional procedures dealing with drug abuse or shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in 19.6.2.2.
GAMBLING ACTIVITIES
Staff members of the athletics department of a member institution and student-athletes shall not knowingly:
Provide information to individuals involved in organized gambling activities concerning intercollegiate athletics competition;
Solicit a bet on any intercollegiate team;
Accept a bet on any team representing the institution; or
Participate in any gambling activity that involves intercollegiate athletics through a bookmaker, a parlay card or an other method employed by organized gambling.
DISCIPLINARY ACTION
Prospective or enrolled student-athletes found in violation of the provisions of this regulation shall be ineligible for further intercollegiate competition, subject to appeal to the NCAA Eligibility Committee for restoration of eligibility. Institutional staff member found in violation of the provisions of this regulation shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in 19.6.2.2 of the NCAA enforcement procedures, whether such violations occurred at the certifying institution or during the individual’s previous employment at another member institution.
Sports Medicine
A certified athletic trainer is available for treatment of athletic-related injuries and for referral of student-athletes for medical and emergency care. The athletic trainer will post available hours for treatment and/or consultation. The following should be well noted:
1. All student-athletes must contact the athletic trainer immediately in case of illness and/or injury (no matter how minor).
2. The trainer will refer all student-athletes for further medical attention when there appears to be a need, however remote. THIS MUST BE DONE WITHIN 72 HOURS OF THE INJURY. Referrals will be in writing and indicate if the student-athlete denied the referral. The student-athlete and trainer must sign the document.
3. For training room treatment, the student-athlete should report to the training room at least one hour prior to practice or game reporting time.
4. All orders from the athletic trainer concerning treatment and rehabilitation must be followed.
In a case where a student-athlete does not follow treatment, rehabilitation orders, or does not seek further medical attention when recommended, the individual will not be eligible to participate in the particular sport for a given time which will be determined by the respective coach in consultation with the athletic trainer and the Director of Athletics.
6. The athletic trainer has the right to hold a student-athlete out of practice(s) and/or a contest(s) due to a physical injury or illness.
