The Allegheny River Scholars is a group of Pitt-Bradford students, faculty, staff, alumni, and advisory board members who come together to experience the wonders of the Allegheny River region. Our journey, a three-day, two-night canoe trip complete with camping, all meals, programs, and much more, is designed to strengthen and enhance our Community of Learners.
This year's trip will be held Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, August 5-7, 2016.
The cost for the trip is $200 per participant. Students participating on the trip that are taking it for credit will only have to pay the trip cost plus the course fee per credit hour.
Orientation: You don’t need to be an experienced canoeist in order to participate. An orientation will be held prior to the trip, Thursday, August 4, 2016 @ 5:30 pm students meet at the parking lot of the Sport and Fitness Center and travel to practice canoeing on a nearby lake. The session will include canoeing techniques, safety tips, and general guidelines. This orientation serves as a great learning tool for both the novice and veteran canoeist.
Educational Programs: There will be an educational program or entertainment each evening at our campsite. All programs held at the campsites are open to the public. Students can canoe for credit by registering for Summer semester is CRN19245 and Fall semester is CRN25686.
Overnight Accommodations: Participants will stay in tents at the Buckaloons campground along the Allegheny River. A limited number of tents and sleeping bags are available upon request.
