Do you like to tell stories? Particularly the stories of other people? Are you willing to tell their stories to the media, the community or employees? Then choosing a major in public relations may be just what you’re looking for.
As a public relations major, you’ll write. You’ll speak. You’ll think. You’ll learn how to be a master storyteller. You’ll also learn by doing. You’ll work for the student newspaper, The Source. And, you’ll get a chance to serve an internship where you can help plan events, write press releases, take pictures, design Web pages, write stories, and more.
When you graduate, you’ll be ready for a public relations job in several different areas. Work in media relations keeping clients in the news – or keeping them out. Plan special events. Work on publications. Create Web pages. Write press releases and newsletters. Or, take what you’ve learned and go to graduate school.
If you're a public relations major, you will need to declare a minor in one of the following: art, business management, english, international studies, political science, psychology, or sociology. You can minor in another area, but you need to get approval first.
