Program Description:
Do you care about the environment and what’s happening to it? Do you want to do something about it? With a degree in environmental studies, you’ll be prepared to do just that.
In our environmental studies program, you’ll analyze what’s happening to our planet. Deforestation of the rain forest. Toxic waste in the ocean. Global warming. Droughts. Floods. Acid rain. Wildfires. And, you’ll examine many local and regional issues as well. You’ll do that on a campus that is surrounded by opportunity: The Allegheny River. The Allegheny National Forest. Allegany State Park. Even the Tunungwant Creek (The Tuna) which runs along the southern end of campus.
Then, when you graduate, you’ll be prepared for many types of jobs related to the environment. You can study it. Clean it. Manage it. Write stories about it. Even create laws to protect it. Or, you can take what you’ve learned and go to graduate school.
Two of our environmental studies students worked with one of their professors to develop a brochure that identifies and describes trees along the Richard E. McDowell Community Trail, which is adjacent to the university. Read more.
