The Pitt Improvers, a student improvisational club, will perform a comedy show from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons.

The all-ages show is free and open to the public.

Kristin Asinger, visiting instructor of sports medicine, and her husband, Tim, are advisers for the student group. This is the Improvers second year on campus.

During the performances, members of the cast play a variety of improv games and perform them based on suggestions given by the audience.

“We just finished auditions and had more than 30 people try out,” Kristin Asinger said. “It’s amazing how improv can come so naturally to so many people.”

Returning from last year are Immanuel Diamant, a pscychology major from New Hope; Nuwangi Dias, a biology major from Kanata, Ontario; Latdior Williams, a public relations major from Newark, Del.; Nick Olumese, a pre-physical therapy student from Fort Washington, Md.; Adrianne Dias, a sports medicine major from Brooklyn, N.Y.; Brian Roberts, an athletic training major from New Albany; Chris Hooks, a health and physical education major from Emira, N.Y.; Zach Work, an applied mathematics and economics major from Erie; Nick Jones , a writing major from Ardmore; and Kate Yeagle, a broadcast communications major from Newville.

“Our newest Improvers bring a fresh new energy to the group,” Asinger said. They include Brandon Tully, an interdisciplinary arts major from Bradford; and Morgan Back, a sports medicine major from Auburn.

In two weeks, 11 Pitt Improvers will travel to Chicago to attend two improv shows and participate in a four-hour workshop at “iO Theater,” formally known as improv Olympic.

“We’ll be working on character development, building scenes and learning another style of improv called long form.”

Additional shows will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. Nov. 19, Jan. 28, Feb. 25 and April 1 in the Mukaiyama University Room.

The group also plans to reprise its appearance at Kapers at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12, 13 and 14 at Bradford Area High School and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Bromeley Family Theater.
