Being an interdisciplinary artist is becoming more and more attractive to arts organizations. Instead of hiring more separate specialists, many contemporary organizations are looking for people who are qualified to develop and direct programs within all the areas of the arts. When you join arts firms and organizations, you will bring your skills and knowledge of your arts concentration along with the skills of two other disciplines.

In our IA program, your schedule will be as flexible as possible.  Our regular semester courses are offered during morning, afternoon and evening sessions that meet once or twice per week. Also, we offer a number of courses during the summer.  Additionally, our music program offers one-on-one private lesson within a flexible schedule. Typically you can complete the program within four years.

We want to educate, nurture and assist you as an interdisciplinary artist. Therefore, we will offer you a unique learning environment, resources and tools to expand your knowledge, skills, and experience in the arts.

Our Interdisciplinary Arts (IA) major is a dynamic bachelor's degree program dedicated to giving you a quality educational experience in an interdisciplinary setting. When you complete the program, you will be qualified to fill positions in various professional arts organizations. Or, you can assume other roles in the ever-expanding creative industry, which includes performing arts and applied arts. You can also go on to graduate school or even set up your own studio or other professional service.

This vision of our IA program is to achieve national prominence for our unique degree with specialization in one of three arts areas you chosse. By allowing you to structure a program that focuses on your particular art interests in both performing art and visual art, you will obtain knowledge from two historically distinct, but currently converging forms of art.

It is becoming more common for artists and organizations to support and produce work that is interdisciplinary in nature because of new advances in technology and the blurring of the boundaries between performing and visual art.

Our program specializes in cultivating and integrating art directors, multi-media artists, producers, actors, set designers, composers, songwriters, performers, and visual artists working in a variety of media to include digital media, ceramics, mural painting, printmaking, and graphic design to name just a few. The idea behind such integration is that an artist who is trained under our IA model will be qualified not only in the field of his or her specific discipline, but also equipped to manage or direct arts projects and organizations, which work across and within the boundaries of traditional arts disciplines.
